Cobras and Matadors

Cobras and Matadors, a restaurant chain that has seen a few doors close, still has a location open in Fairfax Village. Right next to The Grove and CBS Studios, your best bet is to valet. For 5 bucks, it'll save you wasted time finding near existent street parking.

This tapas restaurant has a charming ambiance -- wine corks adorn the walls, mixed with paintings that add to the Spanish vibe. Be warned though...the tables are VERY close together. It felt a little like I was sharing my meal with the strangers to my left and right.

As for the food, the menu has a nice selection of tapas, that are perfect for sharing. Each item comes on a small plate, but is plenty for two people to pick at. The skirt steak was juicy and tender. We also got the mushrooms, asparagus, and sweet potato fries (SO good!). I enjoyed all of the dishes, but I'd have to say the fries and the mushrooms were my favorite. For dessert, we had to try the churros with chocolate dipping sauce. Let's just say they were delicious.

The food is a bit pricey, and there's a corkage fee if you bring your own wine. Overall though, if you're feeling generous with your wallet or are going out for a special occasion, this is a great spot to go. Try to make reservations though, it was PACKED by 8:30 pm on a Thursday.
